Silay City Chosen as the Philippine Blog Awards Visayas Venue

One of the historic cities in Negros Occidental is the City of Silay, the home of Bacólod-Silay International Airport, the premiere gateway to the Island of Negros. Known as the Paris of Negros for being the home of most ancestral houses in Negros, this where arts and culture was sown in the days of the old for hosting performances and art exhibits of the old. This was because long before Bacólod-Silay International Airport was built, it hosted the main port of Negros Occidental which is now a tourist spot for its iconic ruins of wharf poles. Silay City is where the Cinco de Noviembre was conceived where revolutionaries met in a Farmacia located near the Plaza. It also was once the seat of Roman Catholic Church in Negros Island when San Diego Pro-cathedral after World War II temporarily housed the bishop’s throne, after San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacólod was severely damaged.

This historic city will once again be the centerpoint of cultural and heritage activities in the upcoming Philippine Blog Awards for the Visayas leg. The Philippine Blog Awards Committee chose Negros Bloggers as this year’s host and what could be a better place than the Paris of Negros to be the venue of a prestigious national award. Not only will this event gather big name bloggers from all over Visayas and representatives from Metropolitan Manila, but it will also showcase Negrénse culture of sophistication in such a city of sophistication. Negros Bloggers officers and core members had a courtesy visit and meeting with Silay City Mayor Jose “Oti” Montelibano in order to discuss Silay’s hosting for the said event. Knowing the role of Negros Bloggers in promoting and safeguarding Negrénse culture especially that of Silay City, Mayor Oti agreed wholeheartedly.

Negros Bloggers officers and core members have started the series of meetings for the event that started last October 5, 2011. The national sponsors for the overall Philippine Blog Awards are Nokia, Smart Communications and AirPhil Express. The group is also working on local sponsorships for the event. If you want to partner with us in Negros Bloggers by donating financially or sponsoring a program need, you are most welcome to contact us. Aside from the main program on November 12, Negros Bloggers will also organize a heritage tour of Metropolitan Bacólod on the next day. Those who want to participate or volunteer for the activities may fill up their information by clicking on the “Registration” icon on the sidebar.
